Welcome Back!

This Week....

Language Arts: Practice new spelling sorts every night.

This Week, we're continuing with our Elements of Fiction study and are working on writing a story with a message, or lesson, at the end. Students should be finished or almost finished with their 4 assignments for their ongoing reading project.

Reading Skills:

Two Owls: Making and Modifying Predictions and Nonfiction Reading

Red-Eye Eagles: /oi/ and /aw/ sounds, Suffixes, and Comparing and Contrasting

Polar Bears: Finish novel and follow-up activities

Science A: We are going to transition from our study of Natural Resources into a study of Matter. The two units will complement and build off each other nicely. We will be studying properties of matter, measuring mass of matter, and changes in matter.

Science B: We are continuing our study of Natural Resources and exploring nonrenewable resources, the effects of mining and pollution. The End of Unit Test will be Thursday, January 19th.

Inside Homework Folders tonight is a Reading Log for the month of January. Students need to record and have an adult initial their reading every night. Our classroom is hosting a Super Reader Bowl, inspired by the upcoming Super Bowl. For every 15 minutes that your student reads, he or she will gain 10 yards (or a 1st Down) toward a touchdown for their team. We will name a Star Reader every week. As always, encourage your child to read on-level books that are challenging, but not frustrating. Happy Reading!
